My name is Matthew Wallace, I am 23 years old and this is my outlook on the paranormal.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD AN INTEREST IN THE PARANORMAL?
I started watching Ghost Hunters (TAPS) when I was at a young age, then later on Ghost Adventures. I'd have to say Ghost Adventures is really opened me up to the paranormal world.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST EXPERIENCE?
I think what sparked it all was one night at my old house in Newton, Iowa. I was 18 years old. I was sleeping in my room and I don’t know if it was a dream or not but I doubt it. It felt so real and I remember having sleep paralysis and this bright colorful circle came out of my closet and was hovering over the couch in my room, it was moving in like an oval rotation, just hovering and it kept getting closer to me but I couldn’t move and I remember yelling at it to go away and the next thing I know I’m waking up in the morning. I remember trying to yell for my mom but couldn’t, like the words wouldn’t just come out but then I was able to yell at the orb just seconds later and those words came out just fine. I told my mom she needed to put anointing oil around the closet door and she did. The orb never returned after that.
DID YOU HAVE ANY OTHER EXPERIENCES BEFORE YOU STARTED JPR?
Well later on I moved to another house in Newton, and I would be sitting in my room watching TV and I remember 3 different occasions something would pound on my bedroom door and no one would be there and no one was home. After the 3rd time I yelled at it and said “Go away you’re dead” and it never happened again.
SO HOW DID JPR START?
Well one night Jonah and I were watching Ghost Adventures and we decided to pull out our phones and try to capture an EVP. After a couple of hours of doing so we finally caught our very first EVP and it honestly brought tears to both our eyes. I just remember the feeling of excitement, nervousness, and we were definitely scared, haha. But yeah ever since that EVP, Jonah and I just started talking about forming a team together, then he started buying equipment, I bought a camera and a recorder and we came up with a name for our team. Then Jonah landed us our first investigation at The Mershon Home on February 15, 2014.
WHAT WAS YOUR MOST FAVORITE EXPERIENCE SO FAR?
My most favorite paranormal experience since we started this in 2014 would have to be November 27, 2015 at The Villisca Ax Murder House when a toy bowling pin got knocked over after I had asked it to.
WHAT WAS YOUR MOST SCARIEST EXPERIENCE?
My scariest paranormal experience was during a private investigation in Newton, Jonah had left me alone in the basement knowing I had a fear of children spirits and knowing that there was a child’s spirit in the basement. I was standing there with my camcorder in my hand and I had the spirit box going, when a very loud child’s voice came through yelling “Momma” and then the Ovilus III device said “Mommy”. I was petrified, scared, I couldn’t move, my heart was pounding and I was pissed that Jonah had left me down in the basement alone, and I kept saying out loud to myself “Please don’t come around that corner, please”.
WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL GOALS AS AN INVESTIGATOR?
I'd have to say my goals and personal wants out of doing paranormal investigations is to better understand what happens after we die, and to communicate with those who already have.
WHERE DO YOU WANT TO INVESTIGATE THE MOST?
I think the one place I want to investigate the most would be any place in Salem, MA.
IF THERE WAS SOMETHING YOU HATED ABOUT INVESTIGATIONS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
The only thing I hate about paranormal investigations is the review, haha, it just takes so long and it’s a pain to do.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOU LOVE ABOUT PARANORMAL INVESTIGATIONS?
What I love about paranormal investigations is when a spirit actually communicates with you via disembodied voice, no recorder, no spirit box just a straight up voice that you hear with your own ears.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST FEAR DURING AN INVESTIGATION?
My biggest fear doing investigations is of course hearing or seeing children spirits and actually coming face to face with an apparition of any sort, which thankfully hasn’t happened yet.
PERSONAL QUOTE
“Life is like an investigation, you never know what you’re going to get”
